If you were able to read my last column, you would of read about the beginning of my summer communications internship with NEW Cooperative in Fort Dodge, IA. I have been interning for a little over a month now. So far I have been able to experience many diverse avenues throughout the company. I have also worked with numerous different people not only in the communications department but human resources and safety, as well. I have thoroughly enjoyed presenting a professional image for NEW Cooperative in a variety of ways.

As I mentioned previously, I have partaken in many different projects thus far. Some of my larger duties include 4-H member dues program, company photo contest, promotional items, employee safety newsletter, news articles, company golf outings and a college recruitment video. I also work on social media scheduling and location/facility pictures (22 locations).

I have recently completed the 4-H member dues program for this year. This entailed contacting nine different 4-H county extension offices in NEW Cooperative’s trade territory. This included: Sac, Calhoun, Carroll, Kossuth, Webster, Hamilton, Pocahontas, Wright and Humboldt counties. The NEW Cooperative Foundation, which is directed by Amy Pingel, my supervisor, donated $15 for each 4-H member’s dues. I ask the extension offices to give me numbers of members for each of their clubs in their corresponding counties. From this information, the NEW Cooperative Foundation is able to write out checks for each club. I then delivered them to the extension offices for disbursement. This year, the foundation donated over $25,000 to area 4-H clubs!

I also just launched a company wide photo contest. This contest is open to NEW Cooperative members, employees, spouses and dependent children! Entries are emailed to NEW Cooperative and winners will be chosen in July. This contest will be agriculture related and I am hoping for some great entries showing the true beauty of agriculture.

This past week I have started working on a college recruitment video for NEW Cooperative to use at career fairs and on their website. This will allow college students to get an inside look on an internship at NEW Cooperative, whether its an agronomy, operations, or communications internship!  I have filmed a couple fellow interns and it is rewarding to see what they are getting out of their various internships. NEW Cooperative is undeniably a company that cares about their employees!

With this type of position there is always something new everyday to work on! I truly love that aspect of this position because I am able to do something different every day. I am also lucky enough to be able to work inside and outside which gives a nice balance from day to day.
