As a mechanic, I am always trying to fix what’s broken, in both the literal and metaphoric sense. But some things can’t be fixed unless the unseen hand of our Lord is guiding the path. I have come to recognize that God gifts everyone with time, talent, and treasures, though not in equal amounts.

As the Book of Ecclesiastes tells us, “For everything, there is a season…” Our Lord designed His creation to keep everything in motion. Both our bodies and mind need to keep growing. Nowhere in life is this played out more than in agriculture.

When I see an older car, I cannot help but wonder how the events of that day played out in the creation and purchase of that machine. Perhaps someone not much older than a boy, with a pretty young bride, wondering how he will make ends meet and achieve the American dream once the honeymoon is over…

Take the time to look at the blessings of being on a farm and chosen by our Lord to steward His creation and to feed His sheep. If we do not do this, our internal compass will become skewed, and not only will the decisions made often be wrong, but we will miss out on the joy that living on a farm or ranch and working close to family so richly provides.

As a small boy the entrepreneur in me enjoyed playing Monopoly with my sister, always hoping for the card that instructed me to go directly to Park Place. Much to my disdain, rarely did I receive that wish. Instead, my journey around the gameboard was a series of setbacks, time in jail, and the need to pay exorbitant rent to hotels.
